Facebook’s NPE team has launched a new experimental app called ‘CatchUp’, according to Facebook the main motive of the app is to help you stay connected with the people you care about by showing your family and friends that you are available to talk too.

The company believes that it is important to stay in touch with family and friends, right when there is social distancing and when you are stuck in lockdown. Even though messaging and video calling or even talking to someone face-to-face are some effective ways to be updated about your loved ones, but the company believes that talking over the phone balances both convenience and personal connection. A study by NPE has shown that people tend to call often than video calls since they don’t know whether the other person is available to talk or it may be an inconvenient time to call. ‘CatchUp’ alleviates this issue and also makes it easy to group call with just one tap.

The app allows you to make group calls with up to 8 members. You can even talk to people one-to-one. The app is easy to use and allows you to add more contacts on a call with just one tap without actually ‘merging’ them.

Facebook has launched this app in the US only and it is still being tested. The app is still an experimental one for now. Do you think this app will be used as an alternative for the FaceTime Audio? Do let us know in the Comments below.
